Aerial View

876 rooms, pool, spa, sauna, hi-speed Internet access in the rooms, Wi-Fi in lobby and coffee shop, rooms safes, basketball and tennis court, putting green, conference room. Two towers (37 & 38 stories tall) from 1979. Parking is $10 per day—a good deal by Waikiki standards. This resort seems geared toward families. They allow up to 5 people per room. There’s even a playground next to the pool on the 6th floor, and when kids under 12 arrive, they’re given a beach-related grab bag. If you’re in Tower 2, be aware that some of your “ocean view” may be dominated by Tower 1, if you have a room directly facing that tower. Aston’s rooms (first numbers listed) are being upgraded slowly to a standard look (nothing to rave about, but okay), so ask for an upgraded room. There’s one thing that got under our skin. They have bbq grills available, but you’ll have to bring quarters, because they’re coin-operated. Yeah, it’s minor, but it’s annoying. Check out the snack bar by the pool; it’s not the usual fare. They added a $10 “amenity” fee which pays for Internet in rooms, daily coffee, room safes, dvd rental and some other items.

The second set of numbers is for another on-site agent—Koko Resorts. Their room rates start at less than half the rates of Aston’s listed below. The units can be viewed online. Some are good, some fair, but for the money, they are a solid gold value, and they give $10 off per night for weekly stays. Optional maid service for a fee. No room safes but there’s one in the office and they have a 3-night minimum. They charge a cleaning fee, but they have free Wi-Fi in rooms and free parking. They also lend beach and sports gear like bastketballs, surfboards, etc. for free, so you’ll have to weigh the options.

In general, the resort is not a bad place for families, but child-free travelers might want to look elsewhere. One long block to the beach. 1/1s (535 sq. ft.) are $229–$375.
