The best selling guide to O'ahu... Oahu Revealed |
Sheraton Waikiki (866) 500-8313 or (808) 922-4422 2255 Kalakaua Ave. ![]() 1,695 rooms, 2 pools, fitness room, 24-hour room service, 3 restaurants, 20 shops, 19 conference rooms, hi-speed Internet access in rooms, Web tv, PlayStation, Wi-Fi in common areas, room safes (free). Although there are bigger resorts, this 31-story tower is the single biggest hotel building in all Hawai'i. It's so big you can actually get lost in the hallways, which keep going and going and going. You can do a lot of walking at this sprawling resort, which can feel pretty busy. The oceanfront rooms directly facing the beach are simply glorious, looking down onto the beach and the reef where turtles feed at dusk, but you might want to avoid what they classify as oceanfront if they face the Royal Hawaiian. Oceanfront seems too generous for those rooms. If you're paying for cheaper views, it doesn't make much sense to pay the difference between city and mountain view. Pocket the money and splurge elsewhere. One of their restaurants--the Hanohano Room--has one of the most commanding (30th floor) views of any Waikiki restaurant. You have charging privileges at any of the four Waikiki Sheratons. Parking is $15 ($25 for valet). The rooms are on the small side but are clean and modern, and their location is fantastic. There are only a few resorts in Waikiki that feel this cozy with the beach. Overall, you'll love this if you are jonesin' to be near the beach; you won't love it if you're looking for tranquility. Rooms (225-640 sq. ft.) are $380-$735, suites (875-2,224 sq. ft.) are $1,075-$3,150. |
