The best selling guide to O'ahu... Oahu Revealed "First of all we have several of your books, and they are all awesome...we have been using your guides for years. We have used your guidebook for accommodations, and found they are so true, we are one of those people who the accommodations would make or break a vacation. Our travels to the islands are with 'Revealed' attached to our hip, so thank you for publishing your experiences." |
Royal Garden at Waikiki (800) 731-4820 or (808) 943-0202 440 Olohana St.
210 rooms, pool, sauna, valet-only parking, restaurant, free room safe, hi-speed Internet access in rooms, free Wi-Fi in lobby, Internet kiosk, lanais on corner units only. A 25-story 1970s building. Great curb appeal. The lobby is ornate and expensive with marble, gold, crystal, etc., but when you get to your standard category room, it's so...standard. The decor of the rooms seems to get better the higher up you get, but they are dated at best. The last time this resort was renovated was in 1991, and that's a long time by Waikiki standards. They have plans to convert this into a timeshare, but it's currently part condo and part hotel. This hotel doesn't feel Hawaiian; it feels more Vegas. It's a looong walk to the beach--about 15 minutes. The room views facing the rear of the building are preferable. About half of the rooms are condos, and they have access to a larger pool and spa that hotel guests cannot use. The restaurant is only open for buffet breakfasts. Valet parking is $14, and local calls are a pricey $1.50. Rooms (350 sq. ft.) are $175, suites (711 sq. ft.) are $600. Discounts are usually easy to get and make the prices more palatable. |
