The best selling guide to O'ahu... Oahu Revealed "Just wanted to say that my girlfriend and I are about to go on our first trip to Oahu and we have found your book to be an amazing guide. I have read several other books doing research for our trip and your book is awesome. We love your honesty and have made reservations with several of the activities companies and restaurants listed in your book. The maps are wonderful and we enjoyed your writing style as well :). Ok, just wanted to say super book, it has been a great help in planning our trip and will be a great help to us on the island." |
New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel (800) 356-8264 or (808) 923-1555 2863 Kalakaua Ave. ![]()
125 rooms, 2 restaurants, conference room, free hi-speed Internet access in rooms, Wi-Fi in lobby, valet-only parking, fitness room, free rooms safes, free coffee makers with coffee upon request, room service. Two 1964 buildings of 9 and 3 stories (the latter Diamond Head wing has no elevator). Their oceanfront category rooms are extremely intimate with the beach--look straight down onto the sand--and since the tallest room is 9 stories up, you'll never feel completely detached. This is the reason for the gem. It's on lovely Sans Souci Beach. Though still expensive, you won't get rooms like that for this kind of price in more centrally located Waikiki resorts. And there's the reason for the lower prices--it's a fairly long walk to the heart of Waikiki, and many will opt to drive and pay to park. But you're also away from the buzz of Waikiki. This is a smaller, quieter resort than others you'll find on the beach. Rooms aren't particularly Hawaiian in their decor, but they're simple and clean, and if you have an oceanfront room, you won't even notice the furnishings. Rooms ending in 17 have wrap-around lanais and grand views of the entire Waikiki coastline. We're told those book out for 4th of July fireworks shows. Their overdue bathroom updating was planned at press time. Services have some nice touches like an orchid with your turn-down service, and many of the excellent staff have been around for years. The Diamond Head wing is less desirable (and room furnishings older), but they have kitchenettes. Their Hau Tree Lanai restaurant is a great (though pricey) place to have your breakfast on the beach. Valet-only parking is $18. Rooms (202-434 sq. ft.) are $175-$450, Diamond Head wing rooms (330-550 sq. ft.) are $215-$370, Jr. suites (395-440 sq. ft.) are $325-$410, suites (420-1,043 sq. ft.) are $515-$1,450. Most rooms are discounted. |
