"I love the attention to detail, the candid reviews, and the great sense of humor! I like to be chuckling while reading a travel guide! The book is also aesthetically pleasing with the wonderful blue color scheme (on your Web site also), great photography and cartography, quality paper and nice layout throughout."

Makaha Valley Towers
(808) 696-5892
84-740 Kili Dr., Makaha

Aerial View

592 rooms, Olympic-size saltwater pool, bbqs. Like the Makaha Resort & Golf Club, this one's not on a beach. It's up in Makaha Valley next to a steep mountainside. There are two 1970s buildings averaging 16 stories on 14 pretty and well-maintained acres. Many of the units are owner-occupied, and others may be available only from the owners to rent. The phone number above is a good rental agent with some vacation rentals available. Studios have pull-down Murphy beds to maximize space and have a lanais. No room safes in any units, but they have gate security that would shame the TSA. The 1/1s have a strikingly wide wall of glass doors (but no lanai), creating an impressive view of Makaha Valley and the ocean far in the distance. Since the buildings are built on a hillside, you may have to go higher up to clear some of the palm trees. If your room is on floors 4-7, you may want to ask the agent about the view. There are lots of peacocks wandering around here, their mating call sounds a lot like a cat with a bullhorn. Overall, the units are roomy, clean and comfortable--some could probably use an updating. A nice place, but not as likely to get your juices flowing as Hawaiian Princess. Parking and local calls are free. Studios (585 sq. ft.) are $65-$75, 1/1s (680 sq. ft.) are $70-$80. Normally a one-week minimum. Monthly discounts can make this place quite reasonable.
