Aerial View

1,101 rooms, pool, free 24-hour fitness room, valet-only parking, restaurant, 10 conference rooms, 24-hour business center, free continental breakfast, coffee makers with free coffee daily, free room safes, hi-speed Internet access in rooms. This hotel used to be two towers, but only the original 26-story Ilikai Tower (built in the 1960s) remains--the other tower was sold. Only the top four floors--203 rooms--are part of the hotel. The rest are condos, rentals and timeshares. Since it's next to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, a nautical sense permeates the resort with views that can be quite relaxing if you face the harbor. It's not on Waikiki Beach; expect a 5-minute walk along the shoreline. The rooms (renovated in 2001) are nicely appointed, have large lanais, are spacious and are well-designed. Rooms either have a shower with small tub, a normal tub/shower combo or just a shower. A few rooms have full kitchens. The hotel's common areas were looking worn, and most of the retail spaces were vacant on our most recent visit.

Viewers of old TV shows will remember this as the place where Jack Lord stood on the roof in the opening of Hawai‘i Five-O.

We gave it a gem in our last edition, but things have really changed. The resort was sold, and no information on what new owners had planned, if anything, was available at press time. Valet parking is $25. Rooms (500 sq. ft.) are $400-$550, suites with full kitchens (1,100 sq. ft.) are $550-$1,500. Hope you did much better than these rack rates.
