93 rooms, 2 pools, kitchenettes, coffee makers in Ali'i rooms, free continental breakfast by the pool, Wi-Fi by pool and lobby, lanais on Ali'i rooms, bbq, restaurant. Built in 1955, this and the Breakers next door are the last of a dying breed in Waikiki--low-rise buildings (the tallest only 3 stories) scattered around the grounds. Units are somewhat dreary and worn, but clean. Many of the guests are long-time repeats who gather round the pools (which are pretty) to chat. Price isn't bad considering all rooms have kitchenettes and their website specials include many freebies. As an older hotel there are older annoyances--such as wildly and instantly fluctuating shower water temperatures (yeow!) and an insufficient number power outlets. Most rooms have showers only, except Ali'i rooms. Their staff shows a lot of aloha. 2 blocks to the beach. Parking is $18 extra per day and is on site or across the street. Rooms (288 sq. ft.) are $125-$215. Suites (626 sq. ft.) are $235. Go for a second-floor unit if you can--a bit quieter.
