817 rooms, 2 pools and keiki pool, 4 lighted tennis courts, free fitness center, day spa, 3 restaurants, 7 shops, 9 conference rooms, hi-speed Internet access in rooms, Wi-Fi by pool and lobby, 24-hour business center, coffee makers with free coffee daily, lu'au, magic show, variety show. First things first. You'll need to be in the military, reserve, National Guard or retired military to stay here. (The eligibility requirements are vast--contact them to see if you can weasel yourself in.) This is the roomiest place in Waikiki. This resort consists of two towers. The Maile Tower was completed in 1995. The Ilima Tower was built in 1975 but remodeled in 2009. It is our favorite of the two, because of its recent upgrades and larger rooms. There are 72 acres of land, much of it a park open to the public. (One rule: No bikes allowed. With their jogging and walking paths, they felt bikes were too hazardous.) There are tons of activities available here: volleyball, racquetball, pool activities, video game room, etc., and they're located next to the widest part of Waikiki Beach. We can't imagine anyone staying here, paying these rates, and not being happy. Services are good here, and with their fantastic prices, you'll need to reserve rooms 6 months in advance. No room safes. (It's pretty unlikely you'd get ripped off here since it's a federal offense.) A few standard rooms do not have lanais. Lots of connecting rooms here. Parking is $7. No minimum stay, but there is a maximum--no more than 30 days. Prices are based on your rank and room category--the higher your rank, the more you pay, so suck it up, General. Oh, and no taxes are added to your room rates, meals, etc. Rooms (380-560 sq. ft.) are $87-$277.
