Maui Revealed: "I just wanted to write and thank you guys for publishing the truly great guidebook, Maui Revealed. My friends and I just got back from Maui yesterday and we all really wanted to let you guys know how grateful we were to have this book to help us along. We are a group of 7 internationals (Canadian, German, French) an none of us are the 'resort' types, and Maui Revealed honestly helped us find the best things to do in as affective and fun a way as possible. Please pass along our sincere thanks to Mr Doughty, especially for the honesty with which the book was written. We actually had also along both the Fodors, and Lonely Planet guidebooks, but every single time we cross checked activities, restaurants, or beaches between the books Maui Revealed had more to say, far better directions, and more down to earth honesty. So thank you for helping make our trip so great. I wish all my travel books were as well crafted as this one." |
The Whaler (800) 922-7866 or (808) 661-4861 2481 Ka'anapali Pkwy.
360 units, pool, spa, bbq, air conditioning, sauna, elevator, fitness center, salon spa, 24-hour business center, free hi-speed Internet access, free Wi-Fi in some common areas, daily maid service. This 1975-built property consists of two 12-story towers on delicious Ka'anapali Beach. The services for a condo resort are admirable. The daily maid will even do your dishes if you want. The resort is well-run and friendly. Staff is excellent, many of them long term. However, this property lost its Real Gem rating in this edition because the rooms didn't have the polish you'd expect at this price. Though rooms still have a great layout with a bedroom and common room sharing the view, many rooms have a very dated decor. We debated which ocean views were best, but lean toward north-facing views because Moloka'i looks better than Lana'i from your lanai. Oceanfront has the best views, of course, but the extra $160 or more is pretty painful. Regardless, consider the 1/2s instead of the 1/1s. Extra full bathrooms are $20 more (a deal). You have signing privileges at many other Ka'anapali properties. It's $12 a day to park. $3 per day for a room safe. Studios are relatively spacious at 640 sq. ft. (and some have pull-down beds, offering more usable room for up to 3 people) at $255-$330. 1,114 sq. ft. 1/1s are $360- $415. At 1,118 sq. ft. the 1/2s are $305-$525, and 1,952 sq.ft. 2/2s are $400-$766. |
