Maui Revealed: "I love Hawaii and your books are the absolute best." |
Maui Sugar Beach Inn & Hostel (888) 907-8427 or (808) 879-9052 26 Wailana Pl.
6 units sleep up to 26 people, pool, Ping-Pong, coin-op laundry, tvs, free Wi-Fi, a/c in penthouse, daily tidy of common areas, shared kitchens and baths, airport pick up. This one is hard to classify. They call themselves “an upscale beach hostel,” but they are not on a beach; it’s down the short street and across the road. And hostels have dorms, but this place has condo style units. There are five 1/1s that each sleep up to 4 people2 in the private bedroom and 2 in the living room. The last unit is a 3/2 that sleeps up to 6 people. The kitchens and baths are all shared spaces. You are supplied towels and linenswhich you wash. The shared spaces, baths and living rooms are cleaned by the staff, but you are expected to tidy up after yourself, like at a hostel. This is not a party place, it’s a homey, friendly place. The 1/1s are 400 sq. ft. and the 3/2 is 1,700 sq. ft. You pay by the bed or room on the 1/1s, which is $39 for a single bed or $88 for a private room up to 2 people. The 3/2 is rented at $420 for up to 6 people2 per each bedroom. That is way too expensive, but the single bed price or private bedroom price is a good deal. There are no safes or lockers for your valuables. The bedrooms can be locked off. You must have a return airline ticket. No minimum or maximum stay. No groups over 6 people. Confused? We were, too. It takes a special type of traveler to stay here and follow all the rules. You’ll either love it or stay elsewhere. |
