Maui Revealed: "Our family came back from Maui a few weeks ago. We purchased your book at the urging of a friend and it became known as the 'Maui bible' during our travels... I could go on and on about how thankful we were to have your book to help us find wonderful beauty in Maui that could easily be missed. Your writing was delightful, full of local flavor and humor. My son commented on what a cool job you have to write these books by exploring the islands!" |
Hotel Hana Maui ![]() (800) 321-4262 or (808) 248-8211 5031 Hana Hwy. ![]() 70 rooms, 2 pools, 2 spas, 3 restaurants, room service, 2 tennis courts, day spa, valet parking, coffee maker with free fresh ground coffee daily, free Wi-Fi access in club room, croquet, bocce ball. This resort has been though quite a lot. Built as a high-end getaway for the well-to-do, in the late ’90s it fell into disrepair. Two owners later it has reclaimed much of its former glory and now exudes an old-world feel. (But it was for sale again at press time, so it’s hard to say where it’s going.) It’s impossible to stay here and not feel relaxedunless you contemplate the bill that awaits you at the end. Tranquil green hillside grounds, fairly large rooms, and a good staff make this a gem. Special touches are available like in-room massages, private spas in some of the rooms (for extra) and a concerted effort not to nickel and dime you. Free local calls, free room safes, free fitness room, free laundry facilities, free items from the in-room fridge and free valet parking (though you don’t need it) and use of some of the day spa facilities (treatments are extra). They have a 3-hole putting green and have free bikes for use. They offer a lu‘au show with buffet and special chef-inspired dinner buffets with wine pairing on some nights. Every guest gets a welcome basket of fresh fruits and banana bread, and champagne is added for honeymooners. Rooms are very comfortable, and many have nice ocean views. No tvs or alarm clocks and no a/c. (You can request a fan if you’re hot, particularly at night.) This is Hana, and you’re not supposed to care what’s on tv or what time to get up. Some of the cottages have their own hot tub on the deck. Hotel Hana Maui is expensive, but it’s the kind of place that will soothe your soul. It captures the essence of Hana’s unique place in Hawai‘i. They often run room packages to take the sting off the rates. Rooms (543835 sq. ft.) are $495$915. Suites (9421,475 sq. ft.) are $1,175$1,675. |
