The best selling guide to the Big Island... Hawaii "I saw many people with the book during our trip...and I asked them what they thought of it. They loved it, too! We all agreed it is the bible for traveling there!...I don't think many of us would have a clue about some of those great places without your help. All the secret paths to beaches, etc., would be impossible to find. Your descriptions are impeccable." |
Waikoloa Beach Marriott (888) 797-1907 or (808) 886-6789 69-275 Waikoloa Beach Dr. ![]() 555 rooms, 3 pools and 3 spas, free fitness center, health spa, free room safes, room service, valet parking, 16 conference rooms, 12,000 sq. ft. ballroom, business center, hi-speed Internet access in room, Wi-Fi in common areas (extra fee), coin-op laundry, empty fridge, coffee makers and free coffee daily, 2 golf courses, lu‘au and a restaurant. This resort, located directly across from the King’s Shops, went for a modern look they call “contemporary elegance.” The effect isn’t very Hawaiianmore like a 1950s retro-style with abstract patterns in colors to match the surroundingsbut it’s bright, fresh, clean and comfortable. The resort is located next to ‘Anaeho‘omalu Fishponds and Beach (see Beaches) on 15 acres of well-maintained grounds. Though the rooms are smallish (375 sq. ft.), they’re comfortable. The pool has a keiki pool offshoot that’s lined with sand at one end, forming a tiny kid’s beach. The other end features a small waterslide. The adult saltwater pool with an infinity edge is heated. Cabana chairs are $50 (they used to be free, but guests started fighting over them), but umbrellas are still free by pool. The “oceanfront” rooms are pretty far from the ocean and certainly not worth the upgrade price. If you’re willing to spend more, opt for the cabana rooms instead of the oceanfront rooms. They have a mandatory $25 resort free that pays for parking, “free” local calls, hi-speed Internet access, long distance calls to the mainland and interisland, snorkel gear for two, etc. Valet parking is $3. Their published rack rates (below) are nearly irrelevant. They’ll almost always discount them. Rooms (375 sq. ft.) are $355$480, suites (starting at 7501,600 sq. ft.) are $600$2,000. Cabana rooms (515 sq. ft.) are $530. |
