284 rooms, conference room, coin-op laundry, empty fridge, coffee makers in room and free coffee daily, Wi-Fi in suites, hi-speed Internet access in some, pool. This is the nicest hotel in Hilo (though that in itself is not worth tons of bragging rights). Built in 1973, their location on Banyan Drive overlooking Coconut Island affords them nice views. Their lounge has karaoke some nights, live music others, but the drinks are small and anemic. The hotel was sold at press time, so changes may be planned. Rooms are comfortable but dated; the buildings are well-maintained. Check for specials. Local calls are $1. Rooms (345 sq. ft.) are $161-$211. Jr. suites (a good deal) are $247. Other suites are $346-$405.
