203 rooms, 2 pools, empty refrigerator, coin-op laundry. Oceanfront location next to the Coconut Marketplace and reasonable prices make this a popular hotel with tour package promoters. Many visitors are seniors. You don’t really get a feel for the ocean here the way the buildings are oriented. Buildings are old and so are the furnishings, which on this visit looked in very poor shape. The Kaua‘i Sands is a resort in transition. The hotel was for sale again at press time, possibly to a timeshare company, so its fate remains unknown. Rooms are $100–$140 for studios, $160 for kitchenette. Lots of packages, so ask.
